Fertilizer
Super Phosphate production requires the acidulation of phosphate rock with sulfuric acid to recover the phosphates. In most cases, the rock also contains high levels of fluorine that combines with silica in the rock to form silicon tetrafluoride. (SiF4). To minimize waste and chemical usage, the silicon tetrafluoride is scrubbed to produce fluorosilicic acid that is then returned to the acidulation process. Although very soluble, the byproducts of this process also include silica oxides that are not soluble. Verantis has significant experience in the design and supply of multi-stage eductor venturi systems to meet recovery, operational and regulatory requirements. For nitrogen based fertilizer production, our line of fluid-bed scrubbers or venturi/packed scrubber combinations can provide both fine particulate control and ammonia odor reduction while minimizing chemical make-up and effluent requirements. Other applications for Verantis scrubbers include controlling H2S emissions, odors, and particulate from waste to fertilizer recycling processes.
