FAQ

A: Packed bed scrubbers and venturi scrubbers are both designed to remove pollutants from industrial exhaust streams, but they operate differently. Packed Bed Scrubbers use a tower filled with packing material to maximize contact between gas and liquid, allowing for superior removal of gaseous pollutants through mass transfer. In contrast, Venturi Scrubbers remove particles by forcing gas through a constricted chamber at high velocity, creating efficient particle collection, especially for fine particulate matter.

A: An ionizing wet scrubber combines electrostatic particle collection with wet scrubbing to remove fine particulates, mists, and gas contaminants. Gas streams pass through an ionization field that charges particles, which are then captured by scrubbing liquid in a packed tower or multi-stage module. This dual-action system delivers high-efficiency pollutant removal, reduces smoke opacity, and handles sticky or submicron solids, all while maintaining low energy consumption.

A: Routine maintenance ensures long-term performance and compliance. Key tasks include:

  • Inspecting and cleaning nozzles and packing to prevent clogging
  • Checking and replacing mist eliminators as needed
  • Monitoring pumps, motors, and fans for proper operation
  • Inspecting sump tanks, liquid levels, and chemical feed systems
  • Verifying instrumentation, alarms, and control systems

A: Mist eliminators capture liquid droplets entrained in the exhaust gas after the scrubbing process. By removing these droplets, mist eliminators prevent carryover of scrubbing liquid into the stack, reduce loss of scrubbing chemicals, minimize corrosion and particulate deposition downstream, and improve overall gas and particulate removal efficiency.

A: Yes. In fact some are still in operation after more than 30 years! It’s not unusual for our fans to last even longer depending on the operating environment.

A: Yes. Verantis is a global company with offices in China and Singapore. We have installations on all continents and are familiar with all local regulations and requirements.

A: No. When Verantis Corporation began operating in 1926 as a supplier of industrial corrosion-resistant materials, one of our first products was a corrosion-resistant lining for acid pickling tanks. That is how the original Ceilcote® name came into existence. Since then, Verantis has introduced a wide range of products to the industrial marketplace including tank linings, protective coatings, reinforced plastic process vessels, filamentous tower packing, corrosive air handling fans, and other air pollution control equipment and systems.

A: Absolutely. We can provide packing materials for many different applications and for non-Verantis systems. Please contact us at [email protected] for more information or call us directly at 1.800.554.8673.

A: Yes. We have an extensive amount of experience in reworking other manufacturer’s products for our customers. We have converted non-Verantis fans to direct drive systems to improve efficiency, modified fan designs to incorporate our more maintenance-friendly independent shaft model, and modified scrubber system designs to improve their effectiveness. Contact Verantis to talk to a scrubber sales engineer or fan sales engineer to learn more.
